The morning started out like most mornings. Ever since the curse had broken a few years ago, he had been used to the different people that were randomly showing up in town. Of course, he knew he was supposed to be getting around to head to school since it was during the week, and not a weekend. Oh how he had dreaded the thought of going to school today. Simply because well there were so many other things on his mind. He had been keeping to himself the last few days, reading the book of course trying to figure out what to do. He always seemed to go to the diner before school so he could get one of his favorite drinks; Hot cocoa with cinnamon. Which apparently was a family trait since both his biological mother, Emma, and that of his maternal grandmother both liked it as well.
A sigh escaped his lips as he'd finally reached the door to Granny's diner. It was a beautiful day out and so he hadn't minded the walk there. Once the door had closed behind him, he noticed a couple of familiar faces. Especially Granny in her usual attire, handling the business as always. And then of course there was Ruby behind the counter. But just as there were a couple familiar faces there were of course some of those that he didn't recognize. At least ones he'd not been properly introduced to. As always the young boy had his backpack and inside it he also carried the book that his teacher, now apparently maternal grandmother, had given him when he'd needed something....hope. Hope he'd gained since first bringing his birth mother to town. It was something that had not changed since his grandmother had given him the book when he was barely eleven years old. So much had been accomplished of course but there was more to do. More people to help and more things to see. Though despite seeing the wonders that had occurred inside of Storybrooke he also couldn't help but wonder about the world on the outside. Since he'd only ever been to one place since he'd gone after his birth mother and that was Boston. Until recently when they had just returned back from New York. And although he missed his friends he realized that it was better not to go back because well it wasn't a real life. One that was orchestrated and fake. He sat at his usual spot as he awaited to see if he'd be noticed. As who would expect him not to show up at this early hour? Once Ruby or Red as she was also known, came over and brought him a cup of hot cocoa and bagel, he couldn't help but smile. The woman knew him so well.
It was here while he was enjoying the hot cocoa and bagel that he felt like someone was watching him and he couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It didn't feel dangerous but then again no one could be certain given all that had occurred in the last few years. His mothers both had told him not to be as trusting as he once was. Because they feared something might happen to him and they had been right about that in the past. But at Granny's he was safe, was he not? After all no one would do anything heinous inside the diner would they? He tried to push the feeling down into his gut, but he knew it wouldn't go away.
And he wasn't going to be overly obvious in looking for trouble. Given that was the last thing he needed. Given all that had occurred when Pan had attacked, and how many lives were affected by it....he didn't want a repeat of something like that. He took a sip of his hot cocoa when he heard a voice from behind him. One that he did not recognize, but yet seemed to try and get his attention. But then again that was a normal thing. Since he didn't know everyone in Storybrooke anymore. "Can I help you?" He asked with the same mature tone that almost anyone who knew him now would use.
